Our Purpose
To make welding knowledge more accessible, practical and useful for engineers, fabricators, inspectors, learners and others working across the welding industry.
Through the Reference Guide, specialist applications and Supply Chain, IMS helps users understand the activity in front of them, access relevant resources and work through engineering requirements in a structured way.
Our Mission
To provide reliable, practical welding knowledge and professional tools that add real value to industry.
Our Vision
To develop IMS as an independent, connected web platform for welding knowledge, engineering support and industry resources.
Our Values
Integrity. Practicality. Collaboration. Continuous improvement. A safer, stronger welding industry.
Real-World Focus
IMS is shaped around practical engineering activities and industry needs—helping users apply knowledge where it matters.
How IMS began
In 1994, welding engineer Sam Leon drew a paper process map to answer a practical question. What does the welding engineer need to do next? He used the map to organise welding records in FusionWELD/WFMS and described the approach in his technical report, Welding Engineering Management Simplified by Information Technology.
Sam is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and a Fellow of The Welding Institute (FWeldI). TWI recognised his work on welding information systems with the Bevan Braithwaite Award for Enterprise. After the incorporation of IMS PLUS LTD, the platform took the name Information Management Systems (IMS).
The Reference Guide brings that original process map into the workshop and onto site. Each of the other IMS applications draws on an earlier system. The Approval & Verification Register (AVR) applies those ideas to welding procedure reviews. FusionWELD developed into eWeld, which informed Welding Qualification Manager (WQM). The ideas behind eFAB informed Manufacturing Record Book (MRB).
